Letter: Hanlon has skills and vision
The upcoming Re-1 Board of Education election comes at a time when the school district finds itself at the crossroads of major, long-term decisions. At this critical juncture, proven leadership is crucial for success. We are fortunate to have a high-functioning group of elected officials guiding our district.
Among them, board member Karl Hanlon has proven that he has the necessary skills and the necessary vision to help boost our communities and thereby position our schools for greater success. Karl is a gifted negotiator who has helped broker deals between entities both large and small. His attitude is that of pragmatic optimism, where there is a time for talk and a time for action.
Since being appointed to his current BOE position, Karl has successfully helped bring together seemingly opposing groups in and around the district to find commonly shared goals. He has pushed for innovative reforms that address long-term issues. His passion for progress is matched by his understanding of the issues and the factors that dictate those issues.
As a city councilor here in Glenwood Springs, I can personally attest to the integrity, creativity and skill set Karl Hanlon brings to the table as an elected official. I have witnessed both his skills in tense negotiations and his grace under pressure. As a current BOE member, his understanding of the role our education system plays in the local community helps ground his decision-making, which in turn has benefited everyone districtwide.
If you value experience, integrity, vision and passion in your elected officials like I do, please join me in voting for Karl Hanlon, Roaring Fork School District Re-1 District A candidate for the school board.
