Letter: Imagine Glenwood meeting Jan. 19

Sumner Schachter
Glenwood Springs

The next meeting of Imagine Glenwood will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the Glenwood Springs library.

Isn’t Mother Nature/Winter a great traffic calmer? Heavy ice and snow and the narrow streets of winter sure make traffic slower and quieter. It would be nice to find ways to accomplish this year round. I suspect that passive and active traffic calming is, in the long run, less expensive than large-scale snow removal. Drive carefully and drive like your kids and grandkids live here.

We hope to have some answers and direction from city staff and, perhaps, a representative from CDOT for more information about the bridge construction, detours and neighborhood protection.

Our most recent meeting was Dec. 1. We had a small but involved group that included two of our council members, Kathy Trauger and Steve Davis. One outcome of the meeting was “20 questions” related to traffic and our neighborhoods. We hope to have city staff address these before our next meeting.

We are also still working on getting together with employer representatives for traffic considerations during bridge construction (and beyond). CDOT is also planning on meetings with employers and Glenwood citizens.

Hope to see you at our next meeting.
