Letter: Important commission races

Please read this if you are a resident of Garfield County. This is an election year for not one but two of our county commissioners. As futile as our voting sometimes seems, it is truly the one way we can make a difference in the way our county is governed.

That is why I am strongly urging every one to get out and vote your convictions. Especially those of you in Battlement Mesa who might now have gas wells in your backyard thanks to our current commissioners. And those of you who have fought to keep Four Mile Road from being turned into a haul route but still fear daily that, despite current promises, the big guys will win out. And those of you who are fighting to save the Thompson Divide but have constantly had your heartfelt beliefs regarding wilderness overruled in favor of big corporations and/or their money perhaps.

I am sure I am not the only one in Garfield County who has felt ignored, abandoned, belittled and cast aside by our elected Board of Commissioners. Please make a difference this election by casting your vote for someone who actually cares about the individuals of Garfield County. Or better yet, let’s find someone to run for office that actually is of the people, by the people and for the people. I can promise that whomever that person is they will get my wholehearted support.
