Letter: Just say “no” to giant pot factory

In 2012, the citizens of Silt voted to legalize recreational pot with 53 percent of the vote. Unfortunately, the town’s politicians have interpreted this (wrongly) as a mandate to invite a super-sized pot cultivation and manufacturing operation into our town.

Silt’s mayor and Board of Trustees seem intent on fast-tracking this project, with woefully inadequate regulations, much as they did the dispensary on Main Street (which is run by the same out-of-town corporation); without consideration for the well-being or the wishes of the town’s citizens.

A public hearing and vote by the Board of Trustees will be held at the Silt Town Hall at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12. I’m urging folks to show up and demand that the vote be shelved until such time that we, as a community, have more fully addressed the difficult questions concerning the regulation of legalized pot. See you there.
