Letter: Let’s keep working for cleaner air

Having been a rancher for a number of years, I understand the need for some burning of irrigation ditches as it is important to have efficient flow of water.

However, in a closed topographical area such as the Grand Valley, the smoke can be concentrated over the valley for extended periods without sufficient winds. This concentrated smoke can be and is hazardous to both young and old.

It is important that the area farmers and ranchers continue to grow crops and livestock; however, it also important to the folks living in the valley to have clean air and water. The population of the valley is becoming more dense with more folks using the air. It is up to all of us to work together including the elected officials to develop a reasonable and workable plan to keep our air clean.
