Letter: Look at the whole picture of Glenwood housing

I find incredibly disingenuous the claim that Monday’s above-the-fold front page and full page A3 article was simply an article on the state of the housing market in Glenwood. A few small mentions of the P and Z recommendations to reject annexation into the city make it clear the intent of the piece. No mention of the county density parameters as they stand today, no mention of the traffic implications, the impact on wildlife, destruction of the historic Bershenyi barn, or the cost burden on the taxpayers of Glenwood Springs to have a very disconnected area for which city services and resources would be committed.

There is always the incredibly ominous subject of evacuation should there ever be a wildfire in the area. Wouldn’t it be less biased to mention the fact that neighbors above and below the proposed project were supported by many citizens living within the current city limits who expressed that this development is not in keeping with the rural countryside they enjoy? While everything was presumably factual, the whole story was not told in this paper on Monday.

I urge anyone who wants to hear both perspectives to attend the City Council meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at City Hall, as well as Aug. 12 and 19.
