Letter: McKinney for Godes, Kaup
It’s been really nice to see so much interest in City Council this election season. My hat is off to all the candidates who have put themselves out there for the public to choose. I have tremendous respect and admiration for each of them.
Unfortunately there can be only one winner for each of the open seats. So when I cast my ballot I’ll be asking myself a few basic questions. Who is the most qualified? Who is the most prepared to hit the ground running? Who is independent-minded to make objective decisions that will push Glenwood Springs forward? Who will keep the City Council balanced with differing perspectives?
I believe Jonathan Godes has what it takes to do the job and to represent the 5th Ward’s interests in the best way possible. He has experience with municipal governments, he understands the complicated dynamics of board decisions, and he will serve independently. He does not want to look backward, but rather Jonathan has presented a forward-looking vision that will benefit us all. Jonathan understands that the 5th Ward has some major needs, and will represent us with a strong voice on council to keep resources steered toward our issues.
I served with Shelley Kaup during the first two years of my eight-year stint on council. She brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and independence to the race. Her thoughtful approach to problems that we faced as a council were invaluable. She understands and respects processes that are meant to maintain the city’s public integrity. Shelley will provide a voice on council and for the city that we all can trust.
For these reasons, I’m asking those of you in the 5th Ward to join me in casting a vote for Jonathan Godes. I’m also asking everyone in the city to vote for Shelley Kaup for the at-large seat on City Council.
Please remember to get your ballots in before the end of the day Tuesday, April 4. Local elections are where your vote carries the most weight, and since Glenwood is at a juncture where some amazing opportunities are before us, every vote cast has a lot riding on it.
