Letter: No speeding enforcement

When I was on the Transportation Commission, and from figures noted in many, many CDOT/city meetings, there are about 25,000 people who travel Grand Avenue per day. Let’s do the math, let’s actually decrease that number to 20,000 for the sake of conversation. Thus, 20,000 times 365 days per year equals 7.3 million people on Grand Avenue per year.

As I read the very impressive headline – “City issues more than one speeding ticket a day,” let’s go further.

The 7.3 million trips per year divided into the impressive number of 430 tickets per year equals a .0000589041 chance of getting a ticket on Grand Avenue. I cannot even say that tiny number.

Odds of being hit by lightning are 1/12,000. Wow, what a truly magnificent effort by our police department to assist in making our city safe for us, our children, pedestrians, pets. They must be just exhausted.

I have campaigned for speed limit enforcement for 20 plus years. There is basically none, as these figures show. Are you kidding me? Get me my some deep water boots, please.
