Letter: Planned Parenthood not needed

Betty Dawson
New Castle

Thank you, Garfield County commissioners, for refusing to use our taxpayer money for Planned Parenthood, which, when we read the papers, watch TV etc. is used for abortions, besides what they tell us about womens’ health etc.

As taxpayers for more than 66 years in Garfield County, the state of Colorado and the United States, we resent that our money is being used for abortions. Yes, we know the Planned Parenthood group tries to have us believe this is not happening at their facilities, but there are many people who tell us this happening, plus babies, who are living and breathing are torn apart for scientific study? This is murder.

Babies are living, breathing, tiny parts of two people who have conceived a child. Breathing does not start after a few months, as many would have us believe.

It seems to us there are many health services, usually free or a sliding scale for payment and we do not need Planned Parenthood.

Thank you again, and hopefully someday the people of the world will realize they are murdering helpless babies who are breathing and alive the minute of conception.

Editor’s note: Here is a link to the most neutral assessment we could find of how tax money can go to abortion: https://www.aclu.org/public-funding-abortion. “The Hyde Amendment excludes abortion from the comprehensive health care services provided to low-income people by the federal government through Medicaid. Congress has made some exceptions to the funding ban … At present, the federal Medicaid program mandates abortion funding in cases of rape or incest, as well as when a pregnant woman’s life is endangered by a physical disorder, illness or injury. Most states have followed the federal government’s lead in restricting public funding for abortion.”
