Letter: Rent adjustment
The gang of four on the Glenwood City Council are in a bind concerning the proposed Meadows apartment complex. If they give the Texas developer a windfall 50 percent-plus break on improvement fees, they will certainly anger all us citizens who have been paying our full share all these years.
For sure we need affordable housing. And for sure we’re not going to get it without some incentives. But giving a real estate investor such favored status without restrictions or controls doesn’t guarantee the housing will remain affordable.
A rent adjustment program, which not only makes common sense but is common in our free market, might just be the only fair solution for Glenwood, the developer and the future inhabitants.
