Letter: Rifle veterans memorial planned

The Rifle American Legion Kelley Hansen Post #78 is in the process of doing another new veterans memorial. This will be our third one. It is to be placed just across the street from Wamsely Elementary School on East 30th Street. It will be dedicated Dec. 7.

The heading will be “in honor and remembrance of the Garfield County veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country’s freedom.” To date we have a list of 83 verified names. Starting with World War I and up to the present wars. We think that there are some names that we may have missed.

If you know of someone, please call me at 970-625-1842 or email johnbscalzo@comcast.net. Please include your phone number. The veteran has to have lost his life in action on foreign soil and be verified.

If you would like to make a donation, send it to the Rifle American Legion, Post #78, P. O. Box 786, Rifle, Colorado 81650. All donations above the cost of this memorial will be placed in an established perpetual care fund for the memorial.

Thank you for being patriotic.
