Letter: Social Security doesn’t drop

The Sunday, July 5,opinion section had a letter to the editor from Dick Fitzgerald titled “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Fitzgerald argued that it was stupid to elect Obama president. He stated that Obama lied to him. He claims that his health insurance costs went up and his Social Security check went down. It is not possible that his Social Security payment went down. When you enroll in Social Security your monthly payment is calculated and the amount you receive is based upon the amount you paid in.

Annually, there is a small cost of living increase, but no one’s check gets smaller.

His claim that his income has gone down and his taxes have gone up is also suspect. Political discussion should be respectful.
