Letter: Support downtown

Let’s all join the “Glenwood Downtown Club” by making a commitment to shop first downtown. This way we will keep our downtown vibrant and help the proprietors keep their small businesses open and successful.

Since I moved here in 1976 I’ve witnessed many shops come and go for a variety of reasons, and have seen many changes occur, always hoping that these changes would be an improvement over what was. Most of the time I think that has been the case.

Now, with all the construction and coming destruction of the Grand Avenue bridge, the time we in the area spend shopping downtown is critical. Shop downtown first, before relying on the internet or driving to the big box stores. This commitment has become and will continue to be more crucial than ever. I work at Mountain Valley’s gallery, Art on 8th, so I know how much we appreciate it when a repeat local customer comes in to shop and enjoy the variety of items we have for sale. It’s so great to hear “we love this place” from them and know they’ll be back again.

While you all may know how important a successful downtown is to any community, your help to make that happen is more important than ever. Join the club, and see you downtown.
