Letter: Support the Rifle Rec Center

I have tried and tried to understand why someone would oppose the building of a recreation center in Rifle. For the life of me I just cannot make any sense of their reasoning.

First of all, I don’t look at this as another “TAX,” that just makes people shut down. I call it supporting my community, supporting the community that I live in to make it a better place to live and raise my family, making Rifle go forward instead of backwards, giving our visitors a place to go and giving the community a place to have entertainment year-round, not just a few months out of the year. Isn’t that what every community wants?

I ask the opposition party this question:

How much do you spend in the town of Rifle in the course of one month? Gas, groceries, eating out, entertainment, etc..? Let’s say you spend $2,000 per month: $2,000 x 0.74 percent = $14.80 per month or maybe not quite that much, $1,200 per month, $1,200 x 0.74 percent = $8.88 more per month. Truly, how would your life be altered so drastically that you can’t support this for your community? You should really think hard about this question, I’m sure, as with my family, it isn’t going to change my life so drastically to make a difference except it will give me more opportunities for my money.

I say vote yes on Sept. 10, 2013
