LETTER: Tea party principles

This letter is in response to Hal Sundin’s As I See It column in the Post Independent Dec. 5 edition. I just want Hal to actually “see” what the principal beliefs of the tea party are. Actually, they are very simple: eliminate excessive taxes; eliminate the national debt; eliminate deficit spending; protect the free market; abide by the Constitution; promote civic responsibility; reduce overall size of government; believe in the people; avoid political pitfalls; and maintain local independence.

I would challenge Hal to read these 10 principles. Then possibly take some time to reflect on them and whether or not our current government is or is not doing these things. I could literally debate him for hours on each one of these points and if they are or are not good for the country but will not due to the PI’s word count restriction.

Instead I will close with this statement: “If our government were practicing these principles would we be better off now? If they never did, would we be the great country we are now?” I submit that 1. they are not and 2. we would not.
