LETTER: The U.S. has a ‘democratic government’

This is in response to the critique of Hal Sundin’s Dec. 5 column by Norm Schroll, which appeared in the Dec. 7 paper.

For his information, and that of your readers, the dictionary definition of “democracy” is “government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is retained by the people and exercised either directly (absolute democracy, or indirectly (representative democracy) through a system of representation and delegated authority periodically reviewed as in a constitutional representative government or republic.”

Therefore, it is perfectly proper to refer to our government as a “democratic government.”
