Letter: Vietnam vet gets excellent care from VA
I want to express my concerns on all of the bad publicity that the VA hospitals are receiving. I’m a Vietnam veteran, 65 years old who is 100 percent disabled from Agent Orange.
Since returning to Garfield County in 2004, I’ve had one heart attack (my fourth); I’ve had vascular surgery, gall bladder surgery and treatment for prostate cancer. I’ve received eye care, dental and hearing correction.
On the Western Slope my treatment from the VA in Grand Junction and the VA Telehealth center here in Glenwood Springs has been excellent. I can walk into the Telehealth center in Glenwood with a medical problem and I have an appointment at Grand Junction VA the same day or next. If Grand Junction can’t treat the problem I’ll have an appointment in Denver or Salt Lake City that week.
After two years of recovery, I returned to work in October 2013, but was laid off in May 2014 for lack of work, not medical reasons. I still can’t do manual labor but I can run heavy equipment.
Without the excellent care I have received from the VA hospitals here in Colorado, I doubt if I would be alive. My sincerest thanks to those who work and donate their time to our veterans.
