LETTER: Whoever authorized $50K traffic study should be fired

I was shocked to learn that the city of Glenwood Springs paid $50,000 to engage a Denver firm on a study on changing traffic from 10th to 11th on Cooper from a one-way to a two-way to accommodate the new parking garage. $50,000! I also understand that a local firm bidding only $15,000 lost the project.

I think it is fairly obvious to anyone who knows the city that the solution was intuitive. The city public works director or the city manager could have easily made the decision without engaging anyone.

Is our city so flush financially that we can spend $50,000 to determine the logical entrance to the parking garage? Whoever made the decision to pay for this study should be fired for [misspending] funds, mismanagement and gross incompetence.
