Letter: Why I’m voting for Rick Stevens
After 18 months of public input and debate, Rick has reached a conclusion that we would expect from a true leader — unlike his opponent who has yet to find a way to bring the community together, but seems to revel in never-ending conflict.
He sees a balanced use of our resources dedicated to the priorities that include completing the Southside underpass, supporting young families with preschool opportunities and affordable living options and repair of our deteriorating infrastructure as a far wiser course.
Rick’s opponent clings to a path that ignores the economic feasibility studies that clearly show the huge negative impact of rejecting a public/private partnership with thoughtful development on the Pan Fork in favor of expanding our 3.6-acre waterfront park – an addition that that would lend little or no benefit to the community for at least six months of the year and would add substantially to the cost of homeownership in Basalt while losing the economic benefit brought by visitors, businesses and residents to a development the size of which has been reduced by 66 percent from the original proposal.
If you’ve heard all of this before and are ready for a path forward, give your support and vote to Rick Stevens.
