Letters should have full names

I am writing in response to a recent letter “Gays should not be allowed to raise children” on May 2.

I too am a T. Patterson and I too live in Rifle, but I in no way, shape or form agree with this opinion. If people wish to write a letter to any newspaper, more power to you and if you would like to use your name, feel free to use your whole name. If you want to speak out do so clearly and with intention, but please don’t go using partial abbrieviation that can be misstaken for another.

My sons’ Scout master told my mother the same day the paper came out that he had seen my letter to the editor. This is after I had already seen the paper and was already a bit irritated. Once my mother came home from the store and told me who else had seen it, I figured I had better set the record straight. I do not enjoy being missrepresented and would hope that from now on the paper will require full, real names, as their instructions clearly state should be the case.

Editor’s note: The letter referred to above was not intended to be published until a full name could be obtained. However, because the editor did not enter it properly in our new system, it found its way into print. He regrets any confusion that may have caused.
