Another great Rocky Mountain Fly Fishing Classic

In September the Roaring Fork Valley hosted the 12th annual Rocky Mountain Fly Fishing Classic to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This great event owes its success to many local businesses as well as individuals. A special thank-you goes out to Rodney Strong Winery, Phil Hansing SC Distributors, Chet Bogdan, Frying Pan Anglers, Taylor Creek Fly Shops, and the great folks at the Riverside Grill. Also many thanks to the incredible fishing guides who donated their time and effort to this event — Gifford Maytham, Taylor Logsdon, Tim Robinson, Jason Peltac, Matt Ippoliti, Christian Hill, Willy Klein, David Burgher, Rich Hastings, Matthew Thomas, Chase DeMeulenaere, Harry Portland and Woody Boughton. Thanks guys, you help make a difference!

Outpouring of support after bike injury

Deborah Korbel would like to send a big warm thank-you to the community in helpful support through recovery from a serious cycling accident. This is an amazing community that I am truly blessed to live in and have so many friends that have come forth to show care and concern through your many gifts. I would like to especially thank Khaleelah Austin for spearheading the fundraiser at Sayre Park recently and Lori Korbel for creating a GOFUNDME site on Facebook. Thank you to each band member of “The Logan Brothers” and “Nanograms” for your time and talents in bringing great music to entertain the guests at the fundraiser. Thank you to the many businesses and friends who donated and participated in the silent auction and pot luck. Thank you Khaleelah for taking time away from your life in Arizona to work more at Paradise Day Spa to service my guests. Mark Miskiewicz, my husband, has truly had a huge challenge thrown at him from me not being able to function as I normally do, and I so appreciate all the extra you have done for me! I am lost for words with gratitude by the outpouring from the community. Thank you!

Watch D.O.G.S launch party a success

On behalf of students and staff at Sopris Elementary School, I would like to thank Paramount Professionals and McDonald’s for helping make our 2015-2016 Watch D.O.G.S launch party a success on Thursday, Sept. 24. Paramount Professionals donated pizzas and McDonald’s donated punch. The students, dads and staff appreciated this.

The Watch D.O.G.S is a father involvement program that helps dads become volunteers at school. After last night’s launch party, SES has a total of 49 dads signed up to volunteer in classrooms and be positive male role models for students. When this program was introduced last year, it was positive for students and the dads who volunteered. Thanks again Paramount Professionals and McDonald’s for donating — it was an encouragement to all who attended.
