Save the Glenwood Library Big Book Sales

Once again I’m asking for help to save the Glenwood Library Big Book Sales.

The Garfield County Library director wants to move the Big Book Sale to the New Castle Library. This same library director planned to move the Glenwood Library close to Target. Considerable effort kept the Glenwood Library in downtown Glenwood. The new library will be located at 8th and Cooper.

The second floor of the new library will be divided; about 60 percent will be used by CMC, with more than 30 percent for the library. The library’s portion of the second floor will not be used for years. This unfinished space could be used for the sale.

We are a reading community. Did you know that folks in Glenwood give 10,000-12,000 books TWICE A YEAR for the book sale? After generously contributing books, people come to the sale and donate money for the books. Each sale in Glenwood generates about $6,000. That’s about $12,000 a year in fundraising for the Glenwood Library.

Each community is different. If the other communities do not want to have their own big sales, that’s fine. The community support for Glenwood’s book sales over many years shows that Glenwood wants to keep the big books sales in Glenwood. So let the powers that be know that.

Please call Library Director Amelia Shelley, 970-625-4270, and the Glenwood Library, 970-945-5958. Leave a message with your name stating that you want Glenwood’s Big Book Sale to continue to be held in Glenwood. What the other libraries do is up to them.
