Letter: Wake up, America
This letter is addressed to all the Americans who simply take for granted their freedoms, clean air and plenty of food to fill their bellies every day.
I am an elderly female in the last years on the planet and cannot simply put on blinders and eat my way into oblivion or sit around and gossip about my neighbor. I want these last years to count for something.
That something is being aware of what is going on in Washington, D.C., and what my five grandchildren may have to look forward to, or not look forward to.
I’ve spent my time and previous letters trying to point out the evil of the man in the White House, but to no avail. I now want to focus on the American people, who obviously are not paying any attention to what is going on in our country.
I’m from the era of John F. Kennedy who said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country!”
I don’t like labels and resent it when someone says, “Have you been a Democrat all your life?”
“No,” is my reply. I’ve always voted for the man, hoping he would have some “redeeming qualities” in his character, and to at least be an honest and sane person with common sense and a commitment to serving his country above his own ego — unlike the current person in the White House.
Republicans, do you really approve of all the lies, cussing, bullying tactics and alienating our allies all over the world, which your president has done? We need an honest person in the White House with compassion, intelligence and common sense.
