Letter: Writer identifies needs

Pitkin County commissioners, although required to run from a defined district, must respond to the questions, concerns and needs of all Pitkin County residents.
In order to maintain a sense of community, the need of that community as defined by its members must be carefully identified.

Recreational needs were addressed by Scott when he worked with others to generate key funding for the ARC so swimmers, local hockey and kids have a great place to develop and exercise.

To meet housing needs, Scott has fought for better affordable housing for full-time, hardworking locals. A community is better when those who work there are able to live there.

Scott has creative ideas on how we can support opportunities for young, local, independent businesses to thrive in our county.

At a time when energy discussions can consume our thoughts and actions, Scott’s commitment to green energy is evident with his scalable solar panel company that not only produces non-carbon-producing energy, but reduces water evaporation in a very dry West when suspended over water.

“Development” is not a dirty word when it is directed toward meeting the appropriate and stated needs of a community and its members. The projected population growth numbers for the Roaring Fork Valley are staggering.

I’m voting for the candidate who has actively addressed the needs of a community by opening the discussions and providing substantive suggestions and opportunities for resolution. Scott’s recommendations reflect his experience, respect the environment, and are presented with respect and courtesy. I’m supporting Scott Writer.
