Letter: Young for state treasurer

Although not much is written about the candidates for State Treasurer, I would like to share a small detail. At the Club 20 debate on Sept. 10 in Grand Junction between Dave Young, Democrat, running against Brian Watson, a commercial real estate investor, the Republican candidate stated to Dave, “While you were a Jr. High math teacher collecting a check from the government your entire career, which you’ve done either as a teacher or as a legislator, we job creators were out on the front lines.”

I would suggest that voters take a look at the experience, knowledge and abilities of teachers before they are dismissed as unqualified to run for public office. Young, of Greeley, House District 50 representative since 2011, has also spent the past two years on the Joint Budget Committee, a bipartisan committee tasked with making spending decisions with the state’s $29 billion budget.

I know I’ll be voting for Dave Young for Colorado state treasurer in the upcoming midterm election. I hope you will join me.
