Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,On Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5-7 p.m. at the Toklat Gallery in Basalt, a reception is being held for state Sen. Joan Fitz-Gerald, who recently resigned as state Senate president. I would like to personally invite valley residents of all affiliations to come and meet this dynamic leader, who has for many years and in many ways helped protect our quality of life and guide our state’s prosperity. From my perspective, Sen. Fitz-Gerald has to be one of the most savvy, determined, compassionate, diplomatic, effective and forward-looking legislators that I have ever worked with in Denver. With Congressman Mark Udall running to serve in the U.S. Senate, the race is on to fill his seat in the 2nd Congressional District. During this most turbulent and important time, Sen. Fitz-Gerald has stepped to the plate, giving voters the chance to bring her experience, ethics and intelligence to bear on the issues facing Colorado and the nation. Please come and hear for yourself Sen. Joan Fitz-Gerald’s unique insights, gleaned from the frontlines of policy making in the Colorado Senate, on the leadership and direction needed to seize the opportunities and address the challenges our country faces.Hope you can make it! Thursday, Nov. 15, at 5 p.m., Toklat Gallery, 231 Midland Ave. #201 in Basalt (In the Riverwalk Building along the Fryingpan River).Rachel E. RichardsAspen

Dear Editor,I would like to make something clear about the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Just because they found a bad apple in the S.O. and the DA’s Office does not make Lou Vallario and Martin Beeson liars. I have worked personally with Martin Beeson, and I have worked with plenty of good men and women on staff with the Sheriff’s Office. We are very lucky to have such hard-working, honest people in our criminal justice system in Garfield County. And one more thing, to compare Mr. Beeson’s office to Colleen Truden’s office is just plain ignorant. Mr. Beeson had a huge mess to clean up in that office that Truden made, and he has done a wonderful job with the resources he has. … Truden was a huge disappointment to us all, and Mr. Beeson has worked very hard to clean up her mess.Jennifer Lynn BowersCarbondale

Dear Editor,Who’s your choice of candidates for the 2008 election? For some of us Democrats, that’s as easy as A-B-C. Anybody But Clinton. We need a uniter, not The Polarizer. Any other woman: Snowe, Boxer, Feinstein, etc. Any man: Richardson, Hegle, Edwards, etc. A president who will demolish the toxic legacy George W. Bush will leave.Ed WagerCarbondale
