Lots going on in Grand Valley
Line dancing classes are being offered at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. The instructor is Margie Klein. Try out a class for $6, or members can purchase 10 classes for $39 and non-members can purchase 10 classes for $49. Just stop at the front desk for more information.
The Friends of the Parachute Library begins a new year with its first meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. President Carol Abbott and the board have scheduled eight programs; all are open to the public. On Sept. 17, Dick Smith will show a video and discuss the construction of the award-winning design of the Glenwood Canyon highway.
The Friends organization holds two annual book sales, presents puppet shows, contributes funds for library purchases and projects, as well as holding informative monthly programs. Many members volunteer to shelve library books, call patrons regarding inter-library loan books and read aloud at the Mesa Vista Assisted Living Center.
Pick up a membership form with the year’s schedule at the Library, pay the $5 fee and become active in the FOPL.
On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 and 4, the annual library book sale will be held at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center lobby. Early bargains are available to Friends of the Parachute Library members from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Five dollar memberships are available at the sale. Times for the public to shop are 1-7 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The selection is huge and the prices are low for adult and children’s books.
Cholesterol screening, blood pressure check, weight and BMI, and blood sugar testing is being offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center, sponsored by Mountain Family Health Centers and the Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease Grants Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
The Village Artists of Battlement Mesa and Parachute Art Show has been rescheduled to Oct. 19 through Nov. 2 at the activity center.
The P.E.O. Chapter IW Fall Fashion Show will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the activity center.
