Lots of lessons being offered

If you missed swimming lessons for your child this summer, don’t despair. The Battlement Mesa Activity Center is offering two more sessions for preschoolers (ages 3-5 years). The first session will be held from 10-10:40 a.m. Aug. 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15 and 16 ” eight classes for $45. The second session will be held from 11:15-11:45 a.m. Sept. 17, 19, 24, 26, Oct. 1, 3, 8 and 10. Call the activity center to register at 285-9480.

The activity center will be offering line dance classes to adults. The beginners’ and refresher classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23, 28, and 30. The regular classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 11, also at 6:30 p.m. Six classes for $20 and 12 classes for $39. Call Margie with any questions at 285-7649.

The Academy of Dance and the Battlement Mesa Activity Center have expanded the children’s dance program to include pre-school dance classes in the mornings. This year, the instruction will include jazz, ballet and tap for ages 6 years and up. Dance Combo (tap, ballet and creative movement) will be offered to the little ones.



Class Schedule: 3 and 4 years 11:15 a.m. to noon Thursdays; 5 years 10:15-11 a.m. Thursdays; 6-8 years 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays; and 8-11 years 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Registration will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the activity center lobby. You may call the academy at 625-0551 to request registration by mail, or stop by the academy in Rifle at 224 East 21st Street for registration. Classes begin Sept. 4 in Flex Room 1. Classes will run through May 2008 and conclude with an end-of-year recital performance. Tuition is $42/month with a registration fee of $20. Ask about a coupon, which entitles you to $10 off the registration fee, redeemable only by registering during the Aug. 28 registration day at the activity center.



The Battlement Mesa Lifeguards will be holding a car wash from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Activity Center. Proceeds from the car wash will be used to purchase pool equipment. Cost will be $5 for cars and $10 for trucks.

The activity center pool will be closed Sept. 4-9 for maintenance, reopening Sept. 10.

This Saturday, Aug. 4, is the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation Guts and Glory Walk at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs. The breakfast, provided by Grand River Hospital District, begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Glenwood Hot Strings Band.

Just a reminder that at 7 p.m. every Saturday, seniors are having bingo fun at the Parachute Senior Center.
