The Glenwood Springs eighth-grade girls A basketball team finished the 2007-08 season as PEG League champions. It went 13-3 this year and also finished second at a tournament in Eagle. The A team was coached by Sandy DeCrow.The B team went undefeated, and players included Gicell Barrigan, Austin Carmer, Kerra Clark, Daysi Contreras, Madison Herman, Alex Jolley, Gabby Lucas, Shea Mollica, Christina Peralta, Michelle Tsosie, Danielle Turley and Brandi Vinger.

Kari Nesbit, daughter of Dale and Julie Nesbit of Silt Mesa, has been named to the Colorado State Universitys College of Natural Sciences deans honor roll.Kari is a 2007 graduate of Glenwood Springs High School. She had a 4.0 grade point average and is a biology major. She plans to enter veterinary medicine, and is involved in the pre-vet club. She just returned from community service work in homeless shelters in Washington, D.C., during spring break.

Nicole Jean Ramsey and Peter Andrew Bonkrude will be married April 12, 2008, in Anaheim, Calif.Nicole is the daughter of Donna and Vernon Ramsey of Parachute. She graduated from Rifle High School and attended Warner Pacific College, graduating with a bachelor of science, and Loma Linda University in California with a master of public health degree. Peter is the son of Sally and Steve Bonkrude of Golden. He attended Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, and the University of Colorado-Boulder, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree.Nicole and Peter met as fellow Colorado children, and after many adventures in California, have decided to tie the knot in the happiest place on earth, or at least the hotel next to Disneyland. They reside in California.



Army Spec. Jesse M. Neely has returned to Alaska after being deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldier is assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, a subordinate unit of the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson, Anchorage.Neely is a rifleman with more than three years of military service.He is the son of Sheena K. Neely of Parachute, and brother of Cody W. Miller of Grand Junction.The specialist is a 2004 graduate of Grand Valley High School.

Cody Dean Hillin of Glenwood Springs, a senior majoring in biomedical engineering at the University of Rochester, has been named to the deans list for academic achievement in the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering for the fall 2007 semester.Cody is the son of Rebecca Parks Phillips, and a graduate of Glenwood Springs High School.



Lisa Guengerich and Merle Detweiler were married Oct. 13, 2007, at the Glenwood Mennonite Church. Lisa is the daughter of Vernard and Florence Guengerich of Goshen, Ind. Merle is the son of Melvin and Ada Detweiler of Fredericksburg, Ohio. Lisa is an administrative assistant and interim restorative justice coordinator for YouthZone, and Merle is a carpenter for Bighorn Construction.The couple resides in New Castle.
