Richard and Marilee Zahnd of Moravia, Iowa, and Jackie Urban of Rifle are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Julie Linn Zahnd and Manuel (Todd) Urban. Todd is the son of the late Jerry Urban and grandson of Emelie Urban of Rifle.Julie is a graduate of Moravia High School and a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, Iowa. She is a teacher employed through Mountain BOCES at Rifle Middle School.Todd is a graduate of Rifle High School and a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is employed at the Garfield County Landfill.They will be married June 7, and will make their home in Rifle.



Cassie Sokal created this sculpted clay tile piece for display at the DIA art show in honor of the Democratic National Convention. It has three coats of a pewter glaze.She has two large mosaics at the Glenwood Springs Municipal Operations Center and one mosaic at the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts.Cassie and her husband Dan have lived in Glenwood for 22 years. She is employed by H-P Geotech.

Ervey Gomez and Isela Mendoza of Silt are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Maribel Gomez, at 8:47 a.m. May 7, 2008. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long at birth. Siblings Yesenia Gomez, 16, Erik Gomez, 11, Aaron Gomez, 6, and Anabella L. Mendoza will be happy to play with her.Proud grandparents include Rafael Mendoza, Guillermina Diaz, David Moreno, Maria Gomez and Victor Gomez.
