Glenwood Springs Kiwanis club members helped give YouthZone a new splash of color in a painting project at the YouthZone Glenwood Springs office.The project was also sponsored by the Kiwanis.

The family of Tyrell Schroerlucke of Rifle congratulates him for completing the Marine Corps basic training in San Diego. He will continue his training in Southern California for Electronic Maintenance Specialist. Ty graduated from Rifle High School in 2007.

Hansen Nordsiek of Glenwood Springs, a senior at Michigan Technological University, has been named to the schools fall 2008 deans list. His area of study is physics.

Jim Owens, a 2004 Rifle High School graduate, graduated in December from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a business degree emphasizing in marketing and professional golf management.He resides in Colorado Springs and is seeking employment.Jim is the son of Kathy Terry of Silt and Kip Owens of Salt Lake City.

Air Force Airman Michael G. Campbell has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.He is the son of David Campbell of Rifle, and a 2008 graduate of Rifle High School.

Sherri Harrison is the new Carbondale Chamber executive director. Sherri is a Roaring Fork Valley native and has lived in Carbondale for three and a half years. During her time in Carbondale, Sherri has volunteered with the Chamber Posse and also sits on the voluntary board of adjustment for the town of Carbondale as vice chair. Sherri, her husband, Chris, and daughter, Payge, love being part of the community. You may see them out walking their great Dane, Duke.

Sopris Elementary second-grade teachers Sally Friend and Connie Leuenberger become dancing hippos during Sopris Elementarys second-grade play, Wild Things, a Zoo Review.
