The fourth-sixth grade boys basketball team, the New Castle Knights, took first place on Saturday, March 14. This team was one of many put together through the New Castle Recreation Department coached by Adam Herrera and assistant coach Rod Pressler. Congratulations to all the teams for a great season.

A party will be held in honor of Bessie Edwards Simensen April 2 at E. Dene Moore Nursing Home in Rifle. The family will host a party Saturday, April 4 at the Rifle Senior Center.When Bessie was a little girl, her family operated a small country store in the Fairview community, south of Silt. A few years later, they moved to Silt so the children could attend high school.In the past few years she has lived in Silt, Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs and Rifle.For more information, call 719-643-5343.

Mr. and Mrs. G. Blair (Emily) Ferguson of Black Mountain, N.C., are pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Wendy Ann Suares, to Stephen Daniel Evans, both of Jackson, Miss. Miss Suares is the daughter of the late John C. Suares Jr. Stephen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ray (Barbara) Evans of Parachute.Miss Suares is a graduate of Biloxi High School and Emerson College in Boston. She is employed as a news anchor/reporter with WLBT TV in Jackson, Miss.Mr. Evans is a graduate of Alden High School in Alden, N.Y. and of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C. He is employed as a coach and history teacher with St. Andrews Episcopal School in Jackson.A May 30th wedding is planned at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C.
