Monday letters: Local grants, wolf concerns, and event gratitude

Two Rivers Community Foundation thanks supporters

The Two Rivers Community Foundation wishes to thank all their generous donors who have made these grants to local nonprofits possible. In a boost to local nonprofit initiatives, the Two Rivers Community Foundation announced the awarding of over $11,000 in grants to five nonprofits serving the Carbondale, Glenwood Springs and New Castle areas. The grants, ranging from $1,500 to $2,500, are part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to support community-driven projects and services, according to a Two Rivers Community Foundation news release.

The funding, derived from the Two Rivers Unrestricted Endowment Fund (T.R.U.E.) and the Two Rivers Community Foundation, marks a continued effort to empower local organizations. The beneficiaries for the 2024 grant cycle include:

  • Mount Sopris Nordic Council Inc.
  • Valley Meals and More
  • Junior Achievement of the Roaring Fork Valley
  • Glenwood Springs Arts Council
  • Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians

The T.R.U.E Grants Fund, established in 2018 by local community leaders and the Two Rivers Community Foundation, has seen steady growth due to the generosity of community donors. The fund operates in partnership with the Western Colorado Community Foundation, focusing on building the endowment and annually distributing its earnings to impactful projects within the community.

The T.R.U.E. Steering Committee is reaching out to community members, asking for contributions to this local fund. Contributions of any size are welcomed and are tax deductible, supporting a range of projects that benefit the Two Rivers area. Interested donors can find more information at wc-cf.org/two-rivers.

Thank you,

Erin Davis, Glenwood Springs

Wolves don’t belong in Battlement Mesa

Please add my name to the list of those in opposition of releasing wolves in Garfield County. As a retiree and avid gardener, some of my happiest days are spent in my back yard which fronts on open space. This area is a thoroughfare for deer, turkeys and the occasional bear. I already need eyes on the back of my head to avoid disturbance or conflict with wildlife, but if wolves are added to the mix it will be devastating for residents like me who spend time in their gardens. This is Battlement Mesa — not Yellowstone.
