Sgt. 1st Class Michael Blizard of Fox Trot Company, 51st Infantry Long Range Surveillance, attached to the 101st Airborne Division, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal on May 7 for his participation in the Iraq war.

Blizard and his company liberated and cleared South Baghdad, Mosul, and Haditha, covering more than 1,200 kilometers in the course the war with Iraq.

He has taken part in both Operation Enduring Freedom in 2002 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He returned home in January, but is due to deploy again in the near future.

Blizard is married to Shannon Blizard, a Glenwood Springs native. His mother-in-law, Bonnie Embry, stepmother-in-law Denise Sellers and son Cole all reside in Glenwood Springs. Blizard resides in the Fort Bragg, N.C., area with his wife and two sons, Chase and Chance.

Hayley Ayshford Harris, daughter of David and Kathleen Harris of Glenwood Springs, made the dean’s list in Vanderbilt University’s college of education. To make the list, Harris had to make at least a 3.5 GPA.

Brian Nadon of New Castle earned his bachelor of science in religion this June from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
