Kristy Stump and Jared Lay, both 1999 graduates of Rifle High School, plan to marry Sept. 3 at Two Rivers Winery in Grand Junction.

Kristy and Jared graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2003. Kristy received a bachelor of science degree in nursing, and is working in labor and delivery at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. Jared graduated with a bachelor of arts and is currently working in Denver as a commercial real estate appraiser.

Kristy is the daughter of Cheryl and Al Stump and Jared is the son of Sandra and Bob Lay, all of Rifle.



The couple will live in the Denver area.

Natalia Coe, a graduate of Rifle High School, has been selected to attend LeadAmerica’s 2004 Congressional Student Leadership Conference in Chicago. Air Force Airman DeeAnn C. Lenard has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Lenard is the daughter of Deidre and the stepdaughter of Tim Koehler of Parachute. She is a 2003 graduate of Grand Valley High School.

Air Force Cadet Ryan T. Walker has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy. Walker received a bachelor of science degree in operations research with a minor in mathematics and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

Walker is scheduled to attend undergraduate pilot training at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Ga.

Walker is the son of Richard and Kathleen Walker of Basalt and a 1999 graduate of Basalt High School.

The Kiwanis Club of Grand Valley recently held its 11th annual Colorado River Scramble Golf Tournament to support youth in Battlement Mesa and Parachute.

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent was a sponsor of the event and the Kiwanis say the event would not have been possible without sponsors like us. Thanks for the “thanks,” Kiwanis.

Through the tournament the Kiwanis Club was able to provide six new scholarships to 2004 Grand Valley High School graduates.

Christopher Cooper, son of Connie Cooper and John Cooper, was named to the dean’s list at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Christopher is a sports marketing major and earned an impressive 3.75 GPA even while playing for the school’s hockey team. Christopher is a 2002 graduate of Glenwood High.
