Codie Place and Levi Van Sambeek were married on Sept. 4, 2004, in Hermosa, S.D., by Pastor Herb Cleveland. Codie is a 2000 graduate of Rifle High School and 2004 graduate of National American University. Codie, daughter of Don and Edna Place of Silt, now works at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Foundation. Levi is a 1998 graduate of Custer High School in South Dakota, a 2000 graduate of Western Dakota Tech and a 2004 graduate of National American University. He works for Munro Industries and is the son of Deb and Leo Van Sambeek of Hermosa, S.D. Though the wedding was in South Dakota, there was a touch of Colorado at the reception. Codie and her father arrived to the ceremony in Brit McLins (of Silt) early 1900s buggy.

The Carbondale Fire Department received two awards this month from the Muscular Dystrophy Association for its fund-raising efforts on the MDAs behalf. The first was a recognition award for the departments 2004 fund-raising, which totaled $2,846. The second was a 2004 Fill The Boot Rookie of the Year award given to the department for the Fill the Boot fundraising it did during Mountain Fair.
