Construction work for a new school campus is under way. Staci Baker and her dog, Rugby, received the Grand Champion Intermediate Showman Award at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo on Saturday, Aug. 27. Competing in the Open Intermediate Division, Staci and Rugby placed first in their class. They went on to win Grand Champions over 79 other entrants. In addition, Staci and Rugby placed fifth in obedience in the Novice B Division.

Staci resides in New Castle and is a four-year member of the Muddy Paws 4-H Club in Rifle. She is a freshman at Coal Ridge High School. Her dog, Rugby, is a 7-year-old Canaan dog.

Lonnie and Alice Stott have been married for a happy 40 years.

Kim and Brian Soucie, Stacey Stott, Tammy and Calvin Klein, Nikki and Jim Fender, Danielle and Devon Smith, and Cody Stott would like to thank their parents and wish them a happy wedding anniversary.

Lonnie and Alice’s 11 grandchildren and many other family and friends wish them another great 40! We love you both very much!

The following is a list of District 17 of the American Contract Bridge League North American Pairs qualifiers for the next level of competition being held on Oct. 3-9 in Ruidoso, N.M.

Players will be competing to qualify at the national level at the Dallas tournament in the spring of 2006 will be: David Hoch, Susan Knox, Avonel Manges, and Marisa Silverman, of Aspen; Courtney Keller, of Basalt; Robert Walstad, of Carbondale; Bob Zinn, of Edwards; Walter Dunkelberg, Jim Hickson, John Kemp, Lloyd Manown, Marlene Manown, Cheryl Stitt, John Turner, and Stu White, of Glenwood Springs; Craig Frerichs, Rose Frerichs, Vicki Lamb, James Stafford, and Judy Tirpack, of Grand Junction; Dave Fauls and Patti Payne, of New Castle; and Dotti Scott, of Parachute.

Congratulations to each and best of luck in Ruidoso. May all their slams be “right on the money!”
