Keith and Leanne Richel, of Glenwood Springs, are pleased to announce the birth of their new baby boy, Justin Caleb Richel. He was born at 7:46 a.m. Nov. 17, 2005, at Valley View Hospital, and was 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and 19 inches long at birth.His big brother is Jared Richel, who is 4 years old.Proud grandparents are Dan Paul, of Glenwood Springs, Karen Lurvey, of Grand Junction, and Dennis and Debby Richel, of Silt. Great-grandparents are Lamar and Joan Podbevsek, of Grand Junction, Elmer and Ester Richel, of New Castle, and Desmond and Margaret Harris, of Glenwood Springs.

Marine Corps Reserve Pfc. Kalani L. Stone, son of Cindy L. Stone, of Rifle, and Ray K. Stone, of Sacramento, Calif., recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, in San Diego, which is designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.Stone and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m. by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Stone spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drills and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.Stone and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values – honor, courage and commitment, and what the core values mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.Stone and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and addressed as “Marines” for the first time in their careers.
