Navy Seaman Apprentice Mica E. Kentz, son of Su A. and Steven F. Kentz, of Carbondale, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Kentz is a 2001 graduate of Basalt High School.

Kelly Lightfoot, of Parachute, won an honorable mention in the eighth annual “Colorado … It’s Agricultural” Photography Contest, which demonstrates the diversity of Colorado agriculture.

The winners were selected from more than 100 entries based on relation to Colorado agriculture, creativity and technical quality.

Pvt. Joshua Cordova, son of David and Marty Cordova, of Rifle, graduated from Marine Corps boot camp in in San Diego on Jan. 6. He began his three-week course in combat training at Camp Pendeleton, Calif., and from there will begin his M.O.S. training in Kentucky for three months.

Pvt. Cordova is a 2005 graduate of Rifle High School.
