Submitted photoRescue me Sunny, a young gosling rescued from an office parking lot in Basalt, spends the night in the shower under the watchful eye of Daisy, the golden retriever, whose owners are Frosty, Carly and Shiloh Merriott. Sunny was taken to the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation in Silt. Sunny has been successfully released into the wild.

On June 10, Tim’s Tools hosted the annual Mark George Memorial Fishing Derby. There were close to 100 children fishing at Lyons Pond in Rifle. Free poles were given out to everyone, donated by the Division of Wildlife. Tim’s Tools supplied the extra fishing tackle if needed.Children received prizes ranging from the heaviest fish to the prettiest fish. When the fishing derby was over, everyone enjoyed hot dogs and chips supplied by City Market.

Carl and Dandi Holec, of San Diego, are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Jalen Archer Holec, at 10:36 a.m. June 17, 2006. He weighed 7.1 pounds and was 21 inches long at birth.Proud grandparents are Chuck and Shelly Redman, of Parachute, and great-grandparents are Don and Arlis Handeland, of Casper, Wyo.
