Elizabeth “Sarah” Cunningham is heading to Kazakhstan to begin her 28-month assignment as a Peace Corps Volunteer on Aug. 19. An open house to send off Sarah will be from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at 608 W. 12th St. in Glenwood Springs.Sarah, who graduated in the spring from Colorado State University with a BS in applied human sciences, will be teaching English to 12- to 17-year-olds during her assignment.

Congratulations and best wishes to Daniel and Amanda Fruetel on their first anniversary. They were married Aug. 6, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rifle by Father Robert Hehn.Parents Dennis and Yvonne Diaz of Silt and Terri Fruetel of Rifle, along with families and friends of Daniel and Amanda, hope they will have many more years of joy and happiness to come.Daniel and Amanda are both graduates of Rifle High School, class of 1998 and 1999, respectively. They live in Gig Harbor, Wash., where Daniel is stationed nearby with the Marine Corps and Amanda is a lab technician at Providence Hospital in Seattle.

Jason Rickard, son of Brad and Karen Rickard of Palisade, and Ronda Ellis, daughter of Terry and Christie Bingham of Gypsum, are happy to announce their engagement. A wedding is planned for Sept. 3. Jason works for Pine’s Stone Co. in Glenwood Springs and Ronda works for the Post Independent. The newlyweds will reside in Glenwood Springs.
