A group of Colorado School of Mines Alumni hosted a get-together Aug. 5 for ten local high school seniors who are starting at the Colorado School of Mines this year. The event was held at Rivers Restaurant and gave the Mines Freshman a congratulatory send-off that included some advice from current Mines students and old alums.

Robert Imondi, a 2007 Rifle High School graduate, received the Centennial Award from Red Rocks Community College. The award will cover 12 credit hours. This is a merit-based award due to a high GPA. Way to go, Robert!

Edward and Donna McLeod of Old Homosassa, Florida, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Stephanie Nicole McLeod, to Lieutenant Adam Johnson Diaz, son of David and Dian Diaz of Rifle, and Jane Johnson and Ron Missildine of Aurora. Stephanie is a 1996 graduate of Crystal River High School in Crystal River, Florida. She received her bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Florida. Stephanie is currently a business analyst for BASF and is pursuing a masters in business administration from the University of North Florida.Adam graduated from Rifle High School in 1995. He received his bachelors degree from the United States Naval Academy. He was designated as a Naval Aviator in Pensacola, Fla., where he and Stephanie met. Adam is currently stationed at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Fla.They will be married Sept. 15 in Annapolis, Md., at the United States Naval Academy Chapel.
