The last of summer tests promoted Alex Henderson of Glenwood Springs to third gup red belt and Zack Loter of Silt to second gup red belt. This was an advanced skills test that demonstrates a variety of areas including forms, one- and three-step sparring, freestyle sparring, self-defense, kicking, striking and blocking skills. Students ended the test with a board-breaking demonstration. The red belt is the stepping stone for these students on their way to the black belt test.

Hunter Rose of Glenwood Springs celebrated his first birthday Saturday, Aug. 11, with friends and family at home. Hunter is the son of Pastor Dan and Courtney Rose.

His grandmother, Zsa Zsa Char Miller from Pennsylvania, joined him for his special party.



Ana Broyles of Carbondale is a recipient of a 2007 Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship. Broyles will be attending Universal Technical Institute in Avondale, Ariz. The automotive aftermarket industry comes together at the annual symposium to hear top industry figures present trends taking place in the next five years.

Celebrate with Betty Lou Wooley’s family starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at 902 Randolph Ave. (off Park Avenue) in Rifle.

Finally! Kasey and Sarah Cox celebrated this 4th of July with sincere promises to be together forever, and a kiss to seal the deal. Parents Mike and Kelley Cox of New Castle and Galen and Sonya Smith of Rifle as well as 230 friends and family enjoyed the celebration at the Rifle Creek Golf Course, and are proud of the new lovebirds.

Kasey is an electrician’s apprentice for Mark Briels Electric Co., and Sarah is a graphic designer for Micro Plastics. They’ll live in New Castle for now, and see where life takes them … together.
