Students help hotel

ready for holidays

Volunteers from Rifle High School helped begin to get the historic Hotel Colorado in shape for the holiday season by lending a helping hand last week. The hotel typically requires more than 2,600 volunteer hours to hang the more than 150,000 lights that adorn the hotel’s inside and outside; this year, students from Rifle High School spent last Friday and Saturday decorating the hotel.

In exchange for their assistance, the hotel is allowing the students to hold their prom in the hotel’s Devereux Ball Room.

The Hotel Colorado will officially unveil its holiday look at its 7th annual holiday lighting ceremony, which will be held Friday, Nov. 28. Tourists from around Colorado and across the country will gather to see this National Historic Landmark be transformed into a magical Winter Wonderland.

Just prior to the official lighting, the hotel’s courtyard will be filled with carolers.

Visitors can enjoy free hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, a fireworks display and a visit from Santa Claus. The hotel’s main lobby will exude Victorian holiday charm, complete with themed trees and animated exhibits.
