Drudge, Stover engaged
Wedding bells will be in the air next summer for Glenwood Springs’ Kelly Drudge and Joshua Stover. The couple are engaged to get married on July 10, 2004, at the Palisade Church of the Nazarene. Kelly works as receptionist at the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, and Joshua works as a sales consultant for the Glenwood Auto Group; both study at Colorado Mountain College. Kelly is the daughter of Pat Cerise of Glenwood and Mark Drudge of York, Neb., while Joshua’s parents, Skip and Marie Stover, live in Rifle. Best of luck to the young couple.
Rifle writing contest winners
156 youngsters from Burns to Parachute recently took part in Rifle’s short story and poetry writing contest ” and here are the winners.
Fifth Grade Short Stories: 1st Place: “Christmas Morning,” by Emma Neal; Honorable Mention: “When Casey J died,” by Lauren Potter.
Fifth Grade Poems: 1st Place: “I could write,” by Rachel Deming; Honorable Mention: “The wish, the fish, tish, cook and the egg!” by Vanessa Herrena.
Sixth Grade Short Stories: 1st Place: “Lard Evil Lard,” by Tanner Russell; Honorable Mention: “When I went camping with Sydney,” by Brooke Schembri.
Sixth Grade Poems: 1st Place: “Weather,” by Loren Ross; Honorable Mention: “Dads,” by Tearza Eason.
Seventh Grade Poems: 1st Place: “Snow,” by Dalie Gray; Honorable Mention: “Catching the wind,” by Traci Schegel.
Eighth Grade Short Stories: 1st Place: “My mom is in her bathroom …,” by Lacey Kruckerberg; Honorable Mention: “My special day,” by Kacy Doyal, and “Memories,” by Victoria Humphrey.
Eighth Grade Poems: 1st Place: “I have to live with myself and so …,” by Amanda Quick; Honorable Mention: “A road trip through life,” by Chenae Ramirez.
High School Short Stories: 1st Place: “Starless night,” by Kaitlyn Frank; Honorable Mention: “People of the pond,” by Mitch Kosht.
High School Poems: 1st Place, “In the towering castle of my mind,” by Kaitlyn Frank; Honorable Mention: “Simply Love,” by Kellen Evans.
The event’s main sponsors were Mumm Electric and Alpine Bank; thanks to the judges: Erica Machado, Pam Lewis, Marci McShan, Melissa Hisel, Jeff Krebill, Wayne Edgeton, Aleks Briedis and the Rifle Senior Center Writing Group. Winners and honorable mentions are on display at Rifle City Hall.
