Hansen awarded CSU scholarshipAndrew Hansen of Glenwood Springs, a junior at Colorado State University, has been awarded the Bob Peck Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 from the College of Liberal Arts. Hansen is a technical journalism major with a concentration in media relations. He graduated from Glenwood Springs High School in 2001. The award is for the 2003-2004 school year.Local student graduates Down Under1997 GSHS grad Bethany Owen traveled to the other side of the world to attend college graduating from the National Institute of the Arts at the Australian National University on July 24, 2003, with a bachelors degree in Visual Arts with First Class Honors. Her final show was an installation of 99 cast crystal snowflakes arranged on nine satin black aluminum shelves suspended over footprints of rock salt. For her efforts, she was awarded a mark of High Distinction by the assessment panel.Ms. Owen was recently commissioned by the ANU to produce a piece of glass art to honor the retiring ambassador from the United Arab Emirates. She has twice been commissioned to produce pieces for the National Australian Hotel Association. She has had her work in numerous exhibitions across Australia and in the United States. She was a featured artist in the 2003 issue of New Glass Review, published by the Corning Museum of Glass. Currently, Bethany is a graduate in residence in the Glass Art Department at the ANU. She is also establishing a private studio along with two other artists. She lives with her dog, Annie, in Ainslie, ACT, Australia, where she plans to continue her art career.Bethany is the daughter of Jan Owen of Glenwood Springs and Richard Nipper of Morrisania Mesa, sister of Travis Owen of Denver, and granddaughter of Ray & Wilma Rodda, formerly of Glenwood Springs. She is a Glenwood Springs native who graduated from Glenwood Springs High School in 1997 and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Colorado Mountain College in 1999.
