Ora Sloss turns 95 today. She was born and raised in Glenwood Springs and received her teaching degree in Greeley.Ora returned to Glenwood and taught for many years at Glenwood Springs Elementary School. She has two children, Stan and Cheryl, and one grandchild, Jarred. Happy Birthday, Ora.Staff Sgt. West commendedAir Force Staff Sgt. Ronald A. West Jr. has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal.The medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Air Force. West, a fitness supervisor and personal trainer with eight years of military service, is assigned to the 62nd Services Squadron, McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma, Wash.He is the son of Mary Ann and stepson of Rodney Olson of Rifle and a 1998 graduate of Rifle High School.Soo Bahk Do Championship ResultsSeveral members of Rocky Mountain Martial Arts in Basalt and Aspen participated in the 28th annual Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan National Championships in San Diego, Calif., Aug. 10-12.Local participants include: Jennifer Gibbons (second place, male and female IV Dan forms), Lynn McDerrmand (first place in forms and sparring, III Dan women), Johnna Modine (second place in forms and sparring, III Dan women), Robert Wood (third place, sparring, III Dan young men), Dan Dixon (third place, forms/first place sparring, III Dan men), Sue Fittanto (first place in forms and sparring, II Dan women), Sunni McBride (second place, forms/third place, sparring, I Dan women), Bob Bennett (second place forms/third place sparring, I Dan men), Taylor Seelbinder (second place in forms and sparring, I Dan young women), Billy Pinkham (first place, forms/second place, sparring, Red belt men), Debbie Keller (first place in forms and sparring, orange belt women), Cole Resch (third place, forms/second place, sparring 5-6 yr. orange belts), Caleb Rewinkle (first place, forms/third place, sparring 7-8 yr. orange belts), Cody Rewinkle (Honorable Mention/forms and sparring 9-10 yr. red belt boys).
