New bus routes are in effect
Are you feeling the need to ice-skate? Swim indoors? Work out with a buddy at the gym? Or just trying to get to your new job? We’ve got you covered! How about that shopping urge to check out the new Glenwood Meadows development or just a place to park your car to catch the bus? Jump aboard! The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority and Ride Glenwood Springs will take you to your destination. Starting Thanksgiving Day, RFTA and Ride Glenwood Springs routes changed to serve the Community Center, Glenwood Meadows and the new Park & Ride. From now on, only the free Ride Glenwood Springs bus will serve stops along Highway 6&24. Also, the stop at the West Glenwood Mall will be relocated to the southeast corner of the parking lot with both RFTA’s Hogback bus and Ride Glenwood Springs serving this stop. Ride Glenwood has extended its hours of operation to better serve the public. Ride Glenwood Springs will continue to remain free to ride for all riders and operate on one fixed route through the city. The route will serve stops from the Roaring Fork Market Place to the community center, remaining on Highway 6&24, whereas RFTA bus will now serve the downtown area by continuing south on Midland Avenue from the community center to turn on Eighth Street, then go by the courthouse and post office on Colorado Avenue, instead of serving the Highway 6&24 corridor. It will now be easier for you to use transit! The new Park & Ride on Wulfsohn Road will be completed soon with both RFTA and Ride Glenwood Springs serving this stop. So you will be able to park your car and catch the bus soon! Park and Rides are available up and down the valley in Rifle, Glenwood, Carbondale, Basalt and Aspen and make riding RFTA even easier. Instead of driving all over town for your in-town Christmas shopping needs, try using the bus. Our new bus routes will get you there. Any trip made without your car is a benefit to you and our community. If more information on the hours of service, bus schedules, fare information or other bus questions, please visit http://www.rfta.com or http://www.ci.glenwood-springs.co.us for details or call 384-6437 or 925-8484. Sabrina Harris is the transportation manager for the city of Glenwood Springs.
