Opinon: Mayor welcomes Free Press as Fruita’s newest news source
Special to the Free Press
Greetings, fellow Fruitians! Welcome to Fruita’s newest news source.
I enjoy reading about events and happenings in our little slice of heaven. We are fortunate to be a part of a great community, a great and newsworthy community. As you may or may not know, our local paper — the Fruita Times — has shut its doors. This is unfortunate, but when one door closes another door opens.
The Free Press has graciously stepped up to the plate to fill the void of print news in Fruita. Every week they will commit up to four pages to Fruita news. To do this they are requesting our help. The reporters rely heavily on tips and information about what is going on in Fruita. They also have a page for photographs that are entirely generated by the readers.
The Free Press is also looking for a Fruita opinion columnist, someone who represents Fruita interests and would be willing to write once or twice a month. If this sounds like something you would be interested in doing, please apply by emailing Caitlin Row, editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org with a column sample.
Please take photos of your outings in Fruita as well, be it at our local businesses, in our city parks, local churches and schools, or any event you may want to share with your friends and neighbors. Email photos to Brittany Markert, reporter, at email@example.com.
All other news tips you think may be of interest to others in the community should be sent to Row, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 970-243-2200, ext. 18603.
We are being given an opportunity to help shape the future of Fruita news. Let’s use it and make the Free Press our local news source.
Remember to look for the green distribution boxes!
