Opportunities to help

Domestic violence affects every community and county in Colorado, even Garfield County. What’s worse is that every year, thousands of abused women and children have to be turned away from local shelters because those shelters are full. Imagine having nowhere to go but back to the abuser you tried to leave.

During 2003, the Advocate Safehouse Project responded to over 1,900 calls from and to 619 victims or individuals needing assistance, and safely sheltered 35 families, for a total of 1,274 nights of shelter, but we know we could do even more.

The Advocate Safehouse Project is reminding everyone in Colorado that it is easy to contribute to local domestic violence programs and shelters by supporting the Domestic Abuse Program Fund on the state income tax form. This fund directly supports local domestic violence victim services, programs and shelters throughout Colorado. It is a simple and painless way to give. Even a small donation can make a big difference.

Domestic violence shelters in Colorado face reduced donations. Budgets are tight, and our communities are paying the consequences. We can stop the violence. Donations to the Colorado Domestic Abuse Program Fund on your state income tax form can directly help victims of domestic violence right here in Garfield County.
